Every summer, for more than 33 years, over one hundred youth and forty-five staff enjoy a week or long weekend on a real working ranch. The youth enjoy sleeping under the stars, riding horses, swimming, roping, tossing horse shoes, riding Mighty Bucky, archery, star gazing, camp dance, campfires, creating natural arts and crafts, rodeo games, hiking and breathing fresh air all just outside of Los Angeles on our 20 acre ranch in Lake Hughes.
The support of our sponsors has made this possible and now we host Gid D Up weekend retreats! Our Jr. rodeo and riding club participants are former campers who are competing in rodeos year round sponsored by Gid D Up and/or attending rodeo colleges as a result of their camp experience. Camp Gid D Up was founded as a promise at a peace conference by Emmy® Award winning actor Glynn Turman and his wife, Jo-An to the late Mrs. Coretta Scott King to help bring peace among youth gangs and to help youth in the community after the riots of the 1990s.
